Description: Blasticidin, from Streptomyces griseochromogenes is an antibiotic commonly used in gene selection. Blasticidin is active against both propkaryotic and eukaryotic. Resistance to blasticidin is conferred by the blasticidin resistence gene from bacillus cereus (bsr). Bsr codes for blasticidin deaminase.

General Comments: Normally, bacteria are sensitive to blasticidin concentrations of 25-100 ug/ml. Mammalian cells demostrate sensitivity at concentrations of 1-10 ug/ml.
