Description: Actidione (Cycloheximide) is an antibiotic which acts as an inhibitor of protein synthesis in eukaryotes but not prokaryotes. Actidione is used primarily in the selection wild type CAN1, CYH2 and LYS2 genes.
Application with Beer Fermentation: Actidione is used with WL differential agar to suppress yeasts and any molds which may be present; this medium allows reliable counting of all bacteria which may be encountered in the tests performed in brewery laboratories.
