Calcimycin also known as (A23187) is a calcium ionophore with antibiotic properties that kill gram positive bacteria and fungi. This ionophore increases intracellular Ca²⁺ concentrations, and can either initiate or prevent apoptosis in different cell types A23187.

Ionomycin is selective for calcium ions (Ca²⁺); it increases membrane permeability to calcium. Reported to be more effective Ca++ ionophore than A23187.

Calmodulins(CaM) is a ubiquitous, calcium-binding protein that can bind to and regulate a multitude of different protein targets, thereby affecting many different cellular functions.
