Lipids are small molecules including fats, oils, waxes, terpenes, sterols, and others that serve as signaling molecules, energy storage molecules, and organelle structural components. They are all characterized by lipophilicity (fat solubility) and some are amphiphilic (soluble in both water and fat). Here are two of our more popular:
