Pimprinine is an indole alkaloid produced by many species of Streptomyces. It is a potent inhibitor of monoamine oxidase and has shown antiepileptic effects. More recently, pimprinine showed promising anticonvulsant activity in electric seizure threshold tests in mice, comparable to phenyl hydantoin.
