The tetronic acid, chlorothricin is an unusual macrocyclic antibiotic from Streptomyces sp. Related to kijanimicin, sccharocarcins, tetrocarcin and versipelostatin. It shows inhibitory activity against cholesterol biosynthesis from mevalonate and inhibits pyruvate carboxylases purified from rat liver, chicken liver and Azobacter vinelandii.
